Sun Solutions is a large business unit within Sun Microsystems that sells complete business computing packages to clients which can include software, hardware and consulting services. These clients are usually large institutions, such as government and education, as well as private sector businesses like the automotive industry and banking.

They came to razorfish with a mandate to breathe new life into their sales and marketing via the web. To this end, we were tasked with understanding the current sales and marketing practices from top-to-bottom, then crafting a better, value-driven, web-based experience.

In brief, here are some bullets that I pulled from a PowerPoint deck that I authored early on the project that covered some high-level goals.

Starting conversation
We want to begin a conversation with customers rather than talking at them. This dialogue is “plain language” aimed at business executives - a new customer focus - designed to engage, intrigue, and educate. The tone is optimistic, forward-thinking, and loaded with potential.

Supporting corporate positioning
The Everywhere Network: Sun Solutions takes an active role by embracing freedom, control, and openness - real business values/benefits of TEN.

Differentiating Sun Solutions from competitors
Freedom, Control, and Openness: These differentiators visually translate to a direction that is recognizably Sun, but with a spin of fresh, edgy, lush imagery coupled with potent messaging.
